tong 01 - Shows my side
grip tongs. The bottom jaw is a V. They are for holding things that
are too long for regular tongs or to get around obstructions such
as leaves, hooks etc.

Shows holding
a leaf hook for burnishing with a brass brush.
![](4-tong 03.jpg)
Shows holding
a leaf to work the stem, this pair of tongs gives a sure grip for
this task.
![](4-tong 04.jpg)
Shows what
I call my universal tongs. I have 3 different sizes of this style
tongs. A V bottom and a curved top jaw make them adapt at holding
round, square, flat, angle iron and they can be used to grip the middle
of a piece also.

The universal
tongs are especially well suited for holding tapered items securly
such as the punch in this picture.
![](4-tong 06.jpg)
Modified hollow
bit on the left (they have a little less opening at the back of the
jaws), and bolt or pincer tongs on the right. Both have a V notch
to grip material in the middle.
![](4-tong 07.jpg)
Modified chisel
tongs on the left and lipped tongs for gripping flat stock by the
edges on the right.
![](4-tong 08.jpg)
Showing 1/4
by 3/4 gripped firmly. I have 2 sizes of these one large and the small
ones shown.
![](4-tong 09.jpg)
Showing 3/16
by 1-1/4 in the modified chisel tongs(I made the slot longer).
![](4-tong 10.jpg)
Shows what
the chisel tongs were intended for originally, holding the business
end while the other end is dressed.
![](4-tong 11.jpg)
My scroll tongs,
short and long straight jaw on the left and short and long bent jaw
on the right. The short ones on the left have finer points and don't
have a tendency to twist sideways like the long ones do, and the long
bent ones have a wider jaw opening so it doesn't take such a wide
grip on the reins.
![](4-tong 12.jpg)
Shows using
the short straight scroll tongs to bend the pigtail on a leaf hook.
![](4-tong 13.jpg)
Shows the short
tongs used with a short piece of pipe to bend the hook on a leaf hook.
I use this method for S-hooks too, it is quick, takes no special jigs,
and the size can be altered by using a different size piece of pipe.
I keep 1 inch long pieces up to 4 inch pipe nested together for this
purpose.

These are my
anvil plier tongs, they are kept hanging on the anvil within easy
reach, they are a little longer than a regular pair of pocket pliers
and are the tongs I use the most.

My welding tongs,
these are side grip tongs and are used as shown to hold pieces together
for bringing to a welding heat in the forge. the pic shows 2 pieces
of 1/8 by 1 flat.
