My experience with jewlelers saws is that when they break they give a little ping and that is it. Never had one send shards, but then I was trained in Germany, using high grade German blades and still use those now, 30 years later. I also tend to use the very fine blades only and they are very very thin.
My experience is that I've heard broken bits of blade wizz past my ear.........Wear em..... ;)

Keep in mind.....When a jewelers saw blade breaks (and they will) it throws bits of broken blade with such velocity they sound like a bullet ricochet! Wear em.... B)

All the two piece hammers I've ever encountered have a seperate foundation for the anvil. It may depend on just how ''thick'' the floor is. I consider a 6'' concrete floor as thick. If it were one piece there would be no problem imo but it's only 75kilos so you may be ok.......If it were me I'd slice out a piece big enough for the anvil and pour a foundation, then I'd be sure I'd only have to do the job only once.

Working HOT metal in a PH or on an anvil works best to keep the noise down.......But seriously Does your ''neighbor'' never mow his lawn or some such? Nobody bangs/hammers continuously and with 200 yds of space I think he's nitpicking......There are totally people who you just can't please no matter what you do or don't do......You have your rights as well....... ;)

. But I would get totally lost trying to determine which switch to buy or solenoid valve to purchase. Hydraulic tank?
.
The tank is included with the power pack. These can be had at Northern and Surplus Center too, but Phx was the cheapest.
11-3244 pendant from Surplus Center....(must be altered as per previous post)....http://www.surpluscenter.com/pages/Catalog285-152.pdf

- Interests
Blacksmithing, metalworking, knife making, architectural blacksmithing, and other things like whip crafting, pistol and rifle shooting, and drumming but those are unrelated.
At 15 years old and MEtALWORKING is one of your interests how could you not be interested in getting a welder......Set no limits..... B) -
Whew! Bucket list still on.......Motorcycle next.... B)

Looks good, which switch did you end up using?
The same dog dang one they kept sending me.... ....I got someone who new his butt from a hole in the ground and all it took was switching one wire to a different pole......The left is original and the right is aok.....I'll post a parts list soon.

Some say tomato I say tomada, anyway this is how I do em. The little combo dies I use only for small leaves and are about 1 3/8 w x 5'' and on the drawing side they are open maybe 3/32'' so forging them too thin is not an issue.

I have often used my thread files to determine thread pitch, both metric and SAE, they're handy to have anyway.

I helped a smith load a 25 LG into a Volvo station wagon so he could take it from CO to the east coast....

IT'S ALIVE!.... .... After much hasseling with the pendant I finally got it. It's actually more sensitive with the electric valve than the manual spool valve. I don't have any but I'm sure it will curve 3/4x1 1/2'' cold on edge like it's predcessor. I use the ''doughnuts'' over the pins so as to not mar the workpiece or the pins. The pins are W1 which has a rockwell hardness of 21 in the annealed state which I hoped would be hard enough to prevent them from maring but they'll need to heat treated......the shown in the bender is 1'' sq.

I look at all gates in a negative way as well as positive........On your gate the negative spaces are as pleasing to the eye as the positive....Well done!

Over the last 10 years my cell phone has saved me enough in gas alone to pay for a dozen anvils.....Not long after I got one I was in Vail co, about 110 miles from my shop biding an iron job. I got a call to bid another project in Vail while I was there and that alone saved me a day and probly $50 in fuel....I don't leave home without it.....
Oh, and I dropped a dime on a drunk driver just the other day..... ^_^

A candy bar and a bottle of gadoraide and I can have one of the boys at the scrapyard zap a couple pieces.

Same with me, great resource. They never seem to leave it just kicking around in the yard for some reason.....

Macbruce, I wouldn't spend that much either, I was just saying it seems like a better deal when you can also get a stand with it. My budget keeps me in the $1.50/lb or less range.
Mine was more or less a general statement and shouldn't have quoted yours. I think the new anvils are great and can't fathom why any working smith would ever pay collector prices for an anvil that is to be pressed into service. Seems odd to me the anvil (that is the subject of this thread)is only offered in CL in a relativly obscure location. Ebay would be my first choice.

Fatfudd, that peter right is a beauty, though I still wouldn't spend that much on it.
I don't know why anyone would, I'd sooner have say, a new Fontanini 460lb for less than $2500 any day.

I haven't used one in a long time and I did some decent cutting with them, no problem. I just remember the sound of that teeny bit of blade going by my ear and and I figured it had to be really moving to make it.....Before that I never wore glasses when using the jewelers saw but that incident made a believer outa me.
