17,468 LBS PLUS THE ANVIL AND TOOL BENCH .... wow and I was just in Roseburg last June...... That would have loaded down the rental van huh ?

I'm just finishing up a hot cut hardy I'm making from a wood splitting wedge. I'll get some pictures up. I'd look for an old one at a flea market or junk store. They have better metal than the newer ones. Sam

My Syncrowave 300 runs on 220V single phase and will run high duty cycle and in excess of 300 AMPS if needed.

Where do guys find to demo that often ? I'm pretty green here and don't have the ability to demo yet, but is it a "regular" like a museum or historical place or like craft fairs ? Where do you sell the best ? That's my long term goal for retirement opportunity, plus I enjoy the public and interacting. I have one lead, but it's a state or Fderal park, so you can't "officially sell" although they don't have a problem with you slipping to your car and conducting business. They also "pay" you a small fee for your materials and time.

Hey ThomasPowers ... Why do you say the Vulcan is harder to repair ?
-
Of course buying lots of tickets supports the cause as well. Be creative... the last one I was at somebody offered a large roll of paper and a butane lighter, and called it a "coal forge starting kit" that was funny ! or there was a nice UK Stout called "Lump of Coal" with a nice hand forged bottle opener.......... which my 12 year old happened to win... go figure !

You probably saw me, my wife and daughter ..... she thinks you were shooting with a Nikon 40 or 60 ? We posted a bunch of pictures in the 2009 Blacksmithing Events as " Dan Boones Pasture Party " I was a super event !
Can't wait till next year's ! -
Ohhhhhhhhh so now I know where all the anvils I see at auctions with heels and horns broke off came from ! I had always hear that saying - "that boy could break and anvil"
but I didn't realize how true it must be ! -
had a good time at the Dan Boone Pasture party on Saturday. Can't seem to get the pictures up in Blacksmithing Events, so I posted them in my gallery.
Lot's of tailgating and demos. there were some almost perfect anvils for sale.
Peter Wrights, Mouse Holes you name it.

What is the material ? What size stock do you start with ? Looks like a neat design !

48 Willys ...we were down in your neck of the woods last Sunday (Rural Retreat and Ivanhoe) . I was picking up a welded firepot I had a guy CNC Plasma cut from 1/2" stock for me. One thing you might want to check out is your homeowners Insurance. I know it's a pain, but after reading a recent post it sounds like in many cases our claims might be denied and policies canceled for having forges inside buildings, or even welding !

I just picked up some work I had a friend do with his CNC Plasma machine on Sunday. He cut out my firepot for my table style forge I'm building from 1/2" stock. What a nice toy !!!! I want one for Christmas !

One can always look on E-bay at completed auctions and see what the stuff is actually selling for, although in recent weeks blacksmithing stuff has been going for high prices, I don't know why. I have seen rivet forges that normally bring $100 -$125 bring $300-$400.
The last few Champion Blowers with stands have sold for 267,301,220,100, and one with no stand sold for 160. Post drills have sold for 39, 122, 102 and 24. Lots of others did not even get bids. -
I bought a 50# post vise at auction 3 weeks ago, complete for $35. I have a Champion 400 blower I bought last year on e-bay without a stand for about $110 including shipping.

Frosty ..... you amaze me..... is there anything you HAVEn't done ? Your detail about the branding iron was pretty special too.... Thanks for sharing with us.

I'm a cheap skate... I'd make him throw in all the stuff on the forge with the deal, your gonna need a good coal shovel for instance ! I'd say it's a good deal, no matter where you live. Sam in Va.

Ten Hammers .... I think you are refering to TIG welding....he's using MIG
-
I'd say move about 200 miles further south.... that should fix the problem..:)

How thick is it supposed to cut ? and would be interested in hearing if it will cut what they advertise. I'd love to have a Plasma, but usually I have found you get what you pay for, so I have been reluctant to try one like you got. I hope it works out well for you and keep us posted please. I was just corresponding with a guy to cut out some firepot parts for me from 1/2" stock. Thanks for your post

Mine will have a 3" TEE and another length of 3" pipe for a total of 11 1/2" below what is pictured.

Now that's a thought ....provokes a question though.... is the weight of an anvil stand additive to the weight of the anvil ? In other words would my 140# Peter Wright act like a 480# using it on a 340# stand ?
Need information on a blower

You can always regulate a larger blower (within reason) by restricting the inlet or the outlet, but you can't make a blower that's too small blow more. You could even divert extra air elsewhere if you have too much (such as up the chimney if you have one to create draft.
